Udyam registration meaning: the government's free MSME identity

Udyam registration meaning: Udyam is the Government of India's free, online registration for micro, small and medium enterprises. It needs an Aadhaar number, carries no fee and needs no renewal. The Udyam certificate records whether a business is micro, small or medium, and banks use that record to classify its loans.

Loan products, rates, and eligibility are determined by the lenders on our panel. Capnix is not a lender and does not lend its own capital. We run your loan journey end to end.

Udyam registration meaning and the limits

Udyam is done only on the government portal. Registration is paperless and free, and no private agency is authorised to do it (Udyam Registration portal). Capnix does not register businesses on Udyam.

Class Investment up to Turnover up to Source
Micro ₹2,50,00,000 ₹10,00,00,000 Udyam Registration portal
Small ₹25,00,00,000 ₹1,00,00,00,000 Udyam Registration portal
Medium ₹1,25,00,00,000 ₹5,00,00,00,000 Udyam Registration portal

These limits apply from 01-Apr-2025.

How lenders use Udyam

Banks classify a business's loans using the class recorded on the Udyam certificate (RBI Master Direction, lending to MSME sector). That class decides which rules and schemes can apply, such as the collateral-free limit for micro and small enterprise loans.

Example

A manufacturer with ₹1,80,00,000 in plant and machinery and ₹8,00,00,000 turnover (example figures) sits inside both micro limits, so its Udyam certificate shows micro.
