Udyam registration loan: what an Udyam certificate changes when you borrow

There is no single loan called an Udyam loan. Udyam registration is the free government registration that records your business as a micro, small or medium enterprise, and a bank follows the category on the certificate. That category switches on MSME lending rules, such as no collateral on bank loans up to ₹20,00,000 to micro and small enterprises and CGTMSE guarantee cover. The lender still decides the loan.

Loan products, rates, and eligibility are determined by the lenders on our panel. Capnix is not a lender and does not lend its own capital. We run your loan journey end to end.

Is there an Udyam registration loan?

Not as a product of its own. Udyam registration is the government's free registration for micro, small and medium enterprises (Udyam Registration portal). It does not lend money. What it does is prove your category, and a bank classifies your loan by the category on your Udyam Registration Certificate (RBI Master Direction, lending to MSME sector). Several lending rules apply only to registered micro and small enterprises, so the certificate changes what a bank must offer you.

About 9,16,00,000 MSMEs were registered on Udyam in August 2026. The MSMED (Amendment) Bill, 2026, passed by Parliament that month, gives the Udyam Registration Portal permanence as a free, digital and voluntary registration once it comes into force (PIB press release, 07-Aug-2026).

What Udyam registration unlocks for a loan

Micro Credit Card Udyam-registered micro enterprises A revolving limit up to ₹5,00,000 with CGTMSE cover CGTMSE circular 259

None of these approves a loan. The bank still reads your cash flow, returns and repayment record.

Which category you fall into

From 01-Apr-2025, a micro enterprise has investment up to ₹2,50,00,000 and turnover up to ₹10,00,00,000. A small enterprise has investment up to ₹25,00,00,000 and turnover up to ₹1,00,00,00,000 (Udyam Registration portal). Several rules above apply only to micro and small enterprises, so check your category on the MSME classification page.

CGTMSE: the guarantee behind many collateral-free loans

CGTMSE guarantees loans a lender gives to micro and small enterprises without collateral or a third-party guarantee (CGTMSE scheme document). It covers 75% to 90% of the loan, depending on the borrower, and 90% for women entrepreneurs (CGTMSE scheme document). You do not apply to CGTMSE yourself. The CGTMSE guide explains how lenders use it.

Udyam and getting paid on time

Udyam also helps your cash flow, which lenders read.

  • The 45-day rule. A buyer must pay a micro or small supplier within the agreed period, never more than 45 days from acceptance (MSMED Act, 2006).
  • The tax nudge on buyers. Under section 43B(h), a buyer deducts a late payment to a micro or small enterprise only when it is paid (Finance Bill 2023, memorandum).
  • TReDS. Only MSMEs can sell invoices on TReDS, without recourse (RBI FAQ on TReDS).
  • A complaint route. A micro or small enterprise with a valid Udyam registration can file a late-payment case on MSME Samadhaan (MSME Samadhaan portal).

See the 45-day payment rule and TReDS guides.

How to get registered before you apply

  1. Register on the government portal only. Udyam is free, paperless and done only on the government portal and government single-window systems. No private agency is authorised to do it (Udyam Registration portal).
  2. Check the category on your certificate against the limits above (Udyam Registration portal).
  3. Give the certificate to the bank with your application, so it classifies the loan correctly (RBI Master Direction, lending to MSME sector).
  4. Keep the acknowledgement the bank gives you. It records the date you applied (RBI Master Direction, lending to MSME sector).

The Udyam certificate guide covers the certificate, and MSME registration benefits lists the wider benefits.
