EMI on a ₹2 lakh business loan at a glance

At an illustrative 14% a year on a reducing balance, a ₹2,00,000 business loan costs about ₹6,836 a month over 36 months and ₹4,654 a month over 60 months (Standard loan EMI formula). In the first month, about ₹2,333 of the instalment is interest and the rest repays principal. The interest falls every month after that, because it is charged only on the balance still owed.

₹2 lakh loan EMI table by tenure and rate

Tenure EMI at 10.75% EMI at 14% EMI at 18% Source
12 months (1 year) ₹17,653 ₹17,957 ₹18,336 Standard loan EMI formula
24 months (2 years) ₹9,298 ₹9,603 ₹9,985 Standard loan EMI formula
36 months (3 years) ₹6,524 ₹6,836 ₹7,230 Standard loan EMI formula
48 months (4 years) ₹5,145 ₹5,465 ₹5,875 Standard loan EMI formula
60 months (5 years) ₹4,324 ₹4,654 ₹5,079 Standard loan EMI formula

Why these three rates:

  • 10.75% is the bottom of HDFC Bank's published business loan range of 10.75% to 22.50% (HDFC Bank). It is the low end of a range, not a rate offered at this amount.
  • 14% is the bottom of Bajaj Finance's published unsecured business loan range of 14% to 23% (Bajaj Finance). It is also the example rate on the business loan EMI calculator.
  • 18% is an example inside the published NBFC ranges, to show what a higher-risk price does to the EMI.

Every figure uses EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n - 1). P is the loan amount, r is the monthly rate (the annual rate divided by 12 and by 100) and n is the number of months (Standard loan EMI formula). EMIs are rounded to the rupee.

Total interest on ₹2,00,000 at 14%

Tenure EMI Total repaid Total interest Source
12 months (1 year) ₹17,957 ₹2,15,489 ₹15,489 Standard loan EMI formula
24 months (2 years) ₹9,603 ₹2,30,462 ₹30,462 Standard loan EMI formula
36 months (3 years) ₹6,836 ₹2,46,079 ₹46,079 Standard loan EMI formula
48 months (4 years) ₹5,465 ₹2,62,334 ₹62,334 Standard loan EMI formula
60 months (5 years) ₹4,654 ₹2,79,219 ₹79,219 Standard loan EMI formula

A longer tenure lowers the EMI but raises the total interest: ₹79,219 over 60 months against ₹46,079 over 36 months. Totals use the unrounded EMI, so they can differ by a few rupees from the rounded EMI times the months.

What a processing fee does to a ₹2 lakh loan

The EMI covers only principal and interest. One lender, Kotak Mahindra Bank, publishes a processing fee of up to 2% plus taxes (Kotak Mahindra Bank). On ₹2,00,000, a 2% fee is ₹4,000. It is usually deducted at disbursal, so about ₹1,96,000 reaches your account while the EMI stays the same. The true yearly cost is therefore higher than the stated rate.

For new MSME term loans sanctioned on or after 01-Oct-2024, the lender must give you a Key Facts Statement with the APR, the annual cost including interest and all other charges (RBI notification, 15-Apr-2024, RBI notification). Compare offers on the APR. The APR, flat and reducing rate guide shows how.

Documents for a ₹2 lakh business loan

Lenders ask for five sets of papers: KYC for the owners, proof the business exists, bank statements, tax and GST returns, and financial statements. The exact list depends on the lender and on how the business is set up.

Can your business carry the EMI on ₹2,00,000?

Over 60 months at 14%, the yearly repayment on ₹2,00,000 is about ₹55,844. Lenders test whether a business can carry that in two common ways:

  • DSCR compares a year's cash accruals with the year's repayments, using a formula RBI has published (RBI notification, 07-Sep-2020). See the DSCR guide or the DSCR calculator.
  • FOIR compares fixed monthly obligations with monthly income. Each lender sets its own limit, because no regulator defines one (No official definition). See FOIR.
